What is the Social Prescribing Link Worker - Migrant Community Service and who is it for?
The Social Prescribing Link Worker - Migrant Community Service is part of a new suite of programmes being offered in South County Dublin including Clondalkin, Tallaght, Lucan and Citywest.
The Social Prescribing Service is a free service that supports people to connect with their community and improve health and wellbeing through engaging with local services, activities or groups. These may include mental health and wellbeing programmes and supports, physical activity groups, volunteering opportunities and social/community groups. Social Prescribing is a non-clinical service and participation is voluntary. To faciltate connection with the community, the Social Prescriber can attend the first session with your client.
Anyone living in the South County Dublin area who is an International Protection Applicant, refugee and/or a beneficiary of Ukrainian temporary protection, living in Ireland no more than 3 years, can be referred to the Social Prescribing Migrant Community Service if it represents the most appropriate tool for addressing their needs.
Social Prescribing can be particularly beneficial for members of the migrant community who:
- are lonely, isolated or disconnected
- experience mild-moderate anxiety/depression
- are living with one or more chronic health condition(s)
- have been recently bereaved
What are the benefits to people accessing the service?
One of the main advantages of Social Prescribing is the opportunity for people to access non-clinical supports and activities within the community and voluntary sector, which can lead to positive outcomes associated with health and wellbeing, such as reduced isolation and increased independence.
