    SPI-Birds Metadata Form

SPI-Birds Network and Database is a grassroots initiative connecting researchers conducting Studies of Populations of Individual Birds, with the aim to improve data accessibility and transparency and to facilitate collaboration.
  • As part of this community initiative, we collect metadata of the various field studies on birds, and build robust pipelines that convert the data collected stored in local site-specific formats (i.e., primary data) to a standard format. We hope this standard format will facilitate greater collaboration by allowing data from multiple field studies to be easily collated and compared.

Metadata are data about data, or, in other words, the documentation and necessary information needed for someone to understand your data. This includes pieces of information such as data custody, data coverage, methods and protocols used to collect the data.

Through this form, you can join the growing community of SPI-Birds and send your study site's metadata. Once submitted, your metadata will be displayed on the SPI-Birds website for other users to see and search through, increasing the visibility of your study site, providing the opportunity for new research ideas and collaborations.

Besides metadata, you are also welcome to send your primary data to SPI-Birds. These data are safely stored at the NIOO-KNAW server and backed up several times a week. We only use these data to create pipelines that convert the data into the standard format. You keep custody and full control over the use of your data (more info on data licenses below).

    Best wishes,
    The SPI-Birds Team
