In December, the UK Government published non-statutory guidance for schools and colleges advising on how schools should work with transgender, non-binary, or gender questioning students.
We believe these recommendations will put trans, non-binary, and gender questioning students at risk of poor mental health outcomes and expose them to increased safeguarding risks from unsupportive family, friends or staff.
We have a chance to change this guidance, by sharing our views in the public consultation.
The consultation can be confusing, and the questions often make it difficult for people to give clear feedback on the guidance. We're organising these consultation response sessions where LGBTQ+ people and allies are welcome to answer the consultation together, with the guidance of LGBTQ+ policy experts who will explain the guidance clearly and help answer any questions people have whilst filling in the consultation.
If you’re keen to respond to this consultation but aren’t available for any of the sessions, we encourage you to use this guidance to help you complete the consultation.
We particularly encourage responses from people who will be directly impacted by this guidance, including pupils, teachers, parents, school governors, safeguarding leads, student support/pastoral care team members, and medical professionals.
