Comprising a mix of parks including Ferry Meadows, and Thorpe Meadows, together with wilder and more rural places such as Woodston Reach and our ‘Roman’ estate of agricultural land, Nene Park provides the backdrop for a huge array of activities enjoyed by our communities and visitors. At the centre is Ferry Meadows Country Park, a much loved part of Peterborough’s landscape, providing a beautiful patchwork of fields, lakes and trees for the enjoyment of a wide range of visitors. There is something for everyone – 16 miles of paths for a relaxing stroll or run; 2 large lakes for fishing in or sailing on; 2 popular cafés for tea and cake in peaceful surroundings; 3 play areas and a miniature railway to entertain the children; a dog agility course to exercise your canine friend; and hundreds of acres of fields to play or picnic on. It is an extremely popular park attracting over 1.2million visitors per year, making it the 3rd most visited County Park in the UK.
The Park was created by the Peterborough Development Corporation as part of the overall expansion of the City in the 1970s. In 1978 Ferry Meadows opened to the public and in 1988 Nene Park Trust was formed to manage the entire landholding. The Trust is dedicated to realising its charitable objectives through positive visitor engagement and the celebration of heritage, art and culture.
