How to Set a Required Field

When you add new fields to your form in Jotform, they are set to optional by default. This means that users can submit the form without having to fill out these fields. However, there are situations where you may want to make certain fields mandatory—such as a name, email address, or any other important information.

To do this, you will need to set those fields as required. This ensures that users cannot submit the form until they have filled out the required fields. Making fields required is an essential step in ensuring that you collect all the necessary information from your users before they submit the form.

Require or Unrequire Fields Through Element Properties

To Require or Unrequire fields through Element properties

1. In the Form Builder, select the Element you want to require.
2. Click the Settings (gear) icon.
3. Under the General tab, toggle Required to On to make the field mandatory.

If you have required fields that you wish to be optional, do the same steps above but toggle Required to “Off”.

1. In the Form Builder, select the Element you want to require.
2. Right-click on the element to open the Context Menu.
3. Select on Require or Unrequire.

Require or Unrequire Multiple Fields at Once

1. Select the elements with Ctrl + Click.
2. Then, select the other elements with Ctrl + Click.
3. Click the Require or Unrequire button at the top.
